No Parallel Importation of Books into Australia

No Parallel Importation of Books into Australia

Yes, I am still banging on about this, and I need to...

For those who agree with me that the removal of Parrallel Imporation structures is a bad idea, please, 'sign' the petition linked above - and for those who want to know more about this issue here is a starting point.

As for MBT 3, I am currently drawing the last few chapter illustrations, which can be a joy at times and truly hair-tearingly frustrating at others. I have discovered that I am not as good as drawing hands as I used to be - too much writing and not enough sketching over the last 18 months has certainly made the old drawing muscles rusty.

Looking forward to the continuing adventures of Hesuimu and Somedood versus Borky the Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ant - my werazi cans are lined up and ready. (If this makes no sense to you than please read comments from last post - if you dare - they had me giggling... though I am wierd like that...)

I'm placing my bet on dear Borty on this fight-- he has a essionog.

essionog: a special organ that male Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ants have that produce a sticky substance that looks and smells an awful lot like honey, but is actually a mild poison.

still, even when in the midst of groutains, Somedood is a pretty hard character and may be able to use his secret-secret-weapon...

groutain: overly dramatic writhing and rolling on the ground

You should start a youtube or facebook campaign against it. lol.

Paliti: Somedood's secret-secret weapon! A lost martial arts form that involves chopping very fast with a meat cleaver in either hand and turning the enemy into SUSHI!

Will Somedood be able to defeat Borty the Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant ant and Moundogr the goliath cyborg Stanislaudian giant ant using only the art of paliti and his dectactic powers, with Hesuimu by his side? Will the ants' Phaowshnning be too much? They might need more than Spizi to get them out of this mess!

(I had to open the last post's comments to get the words right :P)

Oh gosh...

Okay, when I upload the drawing, someone has to make a description/story using ALL of the relevant verification words within it. Don't worry about the definitions, I'll add them later XD Just make sure they're in bold so they're easy to point out please.

As for the petition - Signed. There's only a handful of people who make their comments public I'm afraid... I find it interesting, reading what others have to say in cases such as this.

I find it highly assuring that Hesuimu and Somedood are armed with Glorpigloop in their fight against Borty the Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ant as they appear to be in lack of Werazi.

Glorpigloop: A gooey ointment that when mixed with the pus from imporas turns a bright bluey purple and can be thrown at at the legs of Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ants to make them jerk uncontrollably, in turn making it more difficult for a Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ant to Phaowshnn. The only down side to this is that the user must contract an impora before using this method and it doesnt work on just plain old Stanilslaudian Giant Ants or Cyborgs. Only Coednedded ones.

Signed! I agree with you compeltely, and I think most people would too if they understood the situation.

I'm so excited about Factotum, will we get a count-down?

Be advised that this post is verbose and polemical.
I live in the United States so I might not understand how it is for the Australian book consumer (or for the Australian author or publisher, for that matter), but books here are quite inexpensive (as one might expect) so I do not see any reasonable demand for a reduction in book price. Cover price here for a hardcover copy of Foundling is $19.99, US dollars.
I am staunchly skeptical of those who are outspokenly supportive of free markets and/or trade deregulation because it is my experience that they will praise "the free market" whenever it benefits them or hurts their competition, and expect to be granted relief or exemption from free market conditions whenever their enterprises or ventures cease to be profitable. Talk of deregulating markets to the supposed benefit of consumers is —I believe— all too often just a populistic ploy put to use for the political or economic expedience of special and minority interests. The proposed lifting of restrictions of parallel importation to Australia brings to my mind such things as NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement). While NAFTA was drafted up and enacted as a Free Trade policy shared by the three countries entering the agreement, as opposed the unilateral elimination of an existing policy of trade restriction, this constitutes a largely semantic difference between an affirmative and a double-negative because the effects of the two are similar. As best as I can tell, the effect of such policies is depressed local wages, exploitation of existing economic disparities, unsustainable economies of massive scale and low quality goods, and disproportionate political representation for the priviledged class of incorporated commercial entrepreneurs. The correlation between the retailers in U.S. (e.g. Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) who supported NAFTA and those retailers in Australia (including, I think, Target) that support the lifting of parallel importation restrictions attests to that similarity. I have worked for a major "big box" retailer, and it is as bad as the "liberal ideologues" say it is.
I resolve to sign the petition, and am sure that anyone who compares the parallel importation controversy with controversies surrounding policies like NAFTA or GATT will find many enlightening parallels.
Sorry for this downer of a post, and please carry on with the freewheeling verificon story.

Very interesting...
could someone please tell what is happening with this verificon story? I seem to have missed quite alot in my absence.

it is the ultimate showdown.

symseutr: a flamboyant spinning-kick capable of smashing one's opponent's nose through the back of their head; Hesiumu is well know for his prowess with it, and is preparing to try it on Moundogr.

Glorpigloop is the most awesomest word ever.

Bultate: a complicated maneuver that involves first lassoing one's opponent by the foot, then hanging them from a tree branch and using them as a punching bag. Let's hope that Somedood doesn't get bultated!

[btw Noelle--sorry if this sounds creepy and stalker-ey :/ but I do read your blog and I think it's lovely but I can't make any comments because of the comment security. not that me not commenting is such a horrendous thing, but it's good stuuff you're writing there in any case. :D *thumbs up*]

sturming: a kick! a punch! a swipe of long insectoid legs! a menacing bobble of coednedds! then Somedood is boinked on the noggin and reels back, head sturming, and makes a hand-signal to Hesuimu...

noelle said...

Wow, thanks monday! I didn't really think anyone was reading that :P It's really more for my own benefit than anyone else's, that's why I haven't really told anyone about it. Sort of a mental dump in some ways :)

Plardbar: an ingot of dense black material resembling a brick which, when hurled at an enemy, bursts into an explosion of stinging black powder. Also highly flammable , so it can be used as an explosive. Hesimu whips out his plardbar, winds back, and prepares to throw...

I agree with Monday, Noelle and especially appreciate your journey to appreciating peotry.

Also, I like to say an especial thank you to you, Squaresville for your thoughtful and eloquent comments - I think you and I might share the same side of socio-politics.

rampo = a shield of hardened wood for absorbing and fending off the blow of a piece of plarbar.
