Extra-curricular bogle action

These are by a fellow MBT-er, Ryan Kjolberg, or Kjolbergart as he is known here.

He is currently "studying to become a concept artist and wants to ultimately become a movie director" and has taken some time out to do us the honour of working up some bogles of his own.

As I said to him in reply, they are "absolutely spot on, the combination of fur and fleshy, snaggle-tooth jaws, the intensity of the eyes; it reminds me of just how damn scary a place the Half-Continent could be to live in and how people's fear and prejudice against monsters is in some way well-founded and fair." Thank you so much for these Ryan.

I hope you all like 'em too...
(These images are of course (c) copyright Ryan Kjolberg, and are used by his pernission)

Anyone else got things to share?

Also, please consider 'signing' the online petition saying No Parallel Importation of Books into Australia, if you have not already - for those who want to know more about this issue here is a starting point.

Wonderful images well one Mr Kjolberg! IT must be great have people willingly draw your fiction... :)

Autscond: A Stanislaudsian boys name. It conversely used to be female, however after certain heroic events by a boy with the name, the names gander changed.

Yes Slight, it most certainly is.

(Oh, and package in mail soon, Ms Ventress.

ponsoc: verb, to cover someones mouth with your hand to prevent them from breathing / uttering noise. easier to do with a cloth, the cloth can have that stuff that makes people fall asleep on it.

Hi again, long time no post. I'm attempting to catch up on older postings (as portals is), but it's definitely no small feat. The illustrations by Mr. Kjolberg are amazing as well. I wish I could draw even an ounce as well as Messrs. (?) Kjolberg and Cornish. Now I am off to allow the battle among Somedood and Hesuimu versus Borky the Coednedded and Moundogr the cyborg Stanislaudian Giant Ants to finish and to sign the petition.

Cheers very muchly, Carlita, and welcome back!

Wow, I love the illustrations. Very impressive Mr. Kjolberg. I made a post on my facebook page asking fellow bookworms to sign the petition. I'm not sure how successful it has been though.

I was just thinking how I think I would really like to see MBT in a comic book. The post about the stages of editing (I know, this goes way back) had the def. for fodicar and I was reminded that I can't seem to imagine the lighting of the lamps, so I don't know if seeing things like the lamplighting or the fights, etc. would translate well to comics. I also just finished the Sandman series by N. Gaiman and the way the writing and the visuals go together is amazing. I have faith that you, Mr. Cornish, could make a similarly engaging comic (series?). Perhaps Mr. Kjolberg could (help) illustrate?

Carlita, I'm also reading the Sandman comics, and the instant I read your post my heart leaped. I hadn't realized it before reading your post, but I too have always longed to see MBT as a graphic novel. I think the illustration styles of both DM Cornish and Ryan Kjolberg would both be wonderfully suited for this kind of thing.

My verification word is "rests." So, I guess Somedood and Hesuimu and Borty and Moundogr are all pretty out of breath, so they decide to take a short break, and they have coffee together (a special Stanislaudian brew) while engaging in friendly chatter.

Long time no post, but here I am again. I am catching up on old posts, and looking forward to be around more.
The artwork is very impressive, it really captures the malevolent nature of bogles. Well done Master Kjolberg.
I haven't spent my tme away completely idle. I managed to convince at least two friends of mine in America to read MBT (they both loved it!). Your books are always the first I list when asked by others for good reading.

Well, well.... It is a great feeling as an artist when people appreciate my art, Especially when one of those people is D.M Cornish. so thanks to all of you who have commented on my work your comments are very much appreciated!
And I just want to say how cool it is to have some of you(Carlita)suggest that I should work with D.M.Cornish on a Monster Blood Tattoo comic because my dream is to turn MBT into a movie trilogy and a chance to work on a project with D.M.Cornish would be a great thing , and literally a dream come true!

oh almost forgot thank you D.M for posting my pictures, it means a lot!

I have to admit, seeing pictures of Nickers and Bogles are always the highlights of my days.

By the way, I'm trying to raise our forum out of the dust, so everyone get on over there and help us out!

Also, if anyone knows anything about making that place like 10 times cooler, that would be great, because my tech awareness level= 0. I'm sort of struggling. Also, any feedback on the forum should hit the tech category over there, because if someone's displeased with it, I'm 100% willing to change it or put it out to everyone.

Thanks, and keep shooting monsters!

Jack

(P.S. I'm a blatant invidist. Sorry to everyone else.)

Another idea: wouldn't it be cool if we could create an anthology of stories set in the H-C written and illustrated by us (fans)? There could be mini-comics for the artists out there, stories or poems about people we'd make up, songs, and/or we could collaborate for as many huge stories we'd want. I have a feeling that this is both extremely overacheiving and that there might be some legal issues to deal with, though ...

We could make a fan fiction section on the forum.

I have to apologise to you JQR for my own tardiness regards the Forum.

I heartily give my blessing to a 'fan fic' and 'fan' art section at the forum and to it occuring anywhere else too.

You 'fans' - I like fellow Sundergirdians better (that is, citizens of the Half-Continent) - doing some great project (colaborative or otherwise) is a wonderful idea, though I agree Carlita that there might be some legal issues (stuff I usually like to avoid thinking of too much) - though where there is a will there is a way.

Your greater hurdle might be my fussiness over 'factual' accuracy (now there's an odd notion) upon details of the Half-Continent and just how is works. (Though I am free for questions, of course... no promises how prompt I will be answering them, however...)

THe drawings are fantastic - the shaggy fur and thepale blue eyes, I can almost smell its warm fetid breath... THanks for sharing them with us and I would love to see more.

Book smelling... I do it. Although not as often as I once did. I had a lovely full set of a series that I inherited from a cousin. The books smelled particularly appealing (they were fasirly modern but there was something about their distinct and heady aroma - maybe the chemicals in the cheap paper...)Anyway I finished the 5th and grabbed the 6th from the box in the study, opened the book and inhaled deeply. To my dry wrenching horror I smelled not the distinctive aroma of the series but the acrid stench of cat piss! The cat is now banned from the study at all times... I am now very caustious about smelling books!

THank you once again DM for sharing your work with us all and all of you for sharing your thoughts with me.

The Horned Nicker is amazing. The textures on its horns are very convincing and it makes me want to feel every knotty bump and groove on 'em.

Of course, feeling the horns of this nicker wouldn't bode very well for me, would it?

Magos Kasen said...

I am not sure if this has been answered before, but are nickers and bogles hunted as sport sometimes? And are they edible?

I have character sketches of both Europe and Threnody, along with some questionable fic, on my blog. Specifically:
