Can´t wait until the book comes out. Sigh, almost 9 more months to go until you deliver (get the joke?).

Factotum 2nd draft completion is excellent news to me! I was a latecomer to D.M. Cornish's Monster-Blood Tattoo books, having read Foundling as an "advance" copy from The Penguin Group probably about the time Lamplighter was released in North America. It was the illustrations that convinced me to read it, and I thought the story with its heart-felt sentiments, doubtful protagonist, and sensibility to the consequences of violence commendable. I recently read Lamplighter, which I unfortunately could only find as a remaindered copy. I will eagerly buy Factotum for cover price and hope that it will help to compensate Mr. Cornish for his enterprise. Although I am ignorant to the complete workings of compensation to authors (especially when it comes to editions of their works published out of country), I know that the purchase of publisher remaindered books does not generate any revenue for authors and is profitable mainly, or perhaps even solely to the seller of said books.
To Mr. Cornish I say, your Explicarium and Illustrations are appreciated. I think that a separate volume of your Explicarium would make the novels more enjoyable, although I see the call to include pertinent "extracts" and appendices in the novels themselves. The ribbons in your Australian edition that you mentioned seem a good compromise; but maybe in the event of future printings there could be a separate Explicarium?

Excellent news, Mr Cornish.

Hoolay! Well done indeed. :)
Arghh I've been gone a goodly while. I totally forgot about this site and then I suddenly remembered when I was hankering after Foundling and Lamplighter today (again. Quiet you, I missed the smell.)

Which brings me to this comment; I think Europe has pretty clothes. Prettier than the other peers, hee. Maybe I'm just being biased.

Congratulations on passing another milestone! Like so many other readers, I'm eagerly awaiting Factotum.

That's great! I still need to read "Lamplighter", by the time I buy a copy of it after reading other books, your book probably won't be published by then though. Something to look forward to.

btw, Pearlius: Erin M made Europe's outfit. the pictures are on the MBT facebook group, I think. they are all shades of awesome.

Hooray! and Congratulations! :)

Wow!
That's awesome. I think I can start commenting again. I've nearly caught up with everything now.
Congradulations!

MBT has a FACEBOOK??! Well. Serves me right for not paying attention. xD

And WOW that costume looks AMAZING! 8D Good work, Miss Erin.

Glad to hear it! Can't wait to add Factotum to my bookshelf!

*explodes*

i just re-read these marvelous pamphlets ;) congraturations on finishing the second draft, lets all hope that the third won't take so long (we don't want another lamplighter-like delay >.>)

Word Verification Vocab:
Jones: The main settlement on the island of the island of Greater Fen. It is a Colony of one of the Brigandine States, Near enough to the Half-continent that Certain Peers have been known to spend their time their. The extremely low acidic waters that surround the islands have made it a popular, if expensive location for those who can afford it. Found in the mimddle of the Sin Tin.

noelle said...

I was just going to say that I was sad that we seem to have abandoned the Verificon. Thank you, Slight!

Somedood: A very notorious bank robber. His real name is Greg, but he adopted the nickname after the police report misunderstood the witness's claim that "some dude was holding up the bank" and published his name as "Somedood."

(I couldn't resist :D)

RottenPocket said...

...

Somedood is awesome!

Dectatic:
The condition where a person is highly magnetised, causing the affected person to be decked by hundreds of large metal objects.

pearl said...

Somedood was dectatic!

subcom: A secondary communication system that are used by highly developed insects, such as the Stanislaudsian giant ants.

monday said...

so when Jones was overrun by Stanislaudian giant ants, only Somedood was able to venture boldly into their lair and destroy their highly strategic subcoms by virtue of his own dectaticism, nigh on losing his life in the process?

thank heaven for: sebroc-- the secret code name for Corbes, an extremely illegal all-healing miracle elixer with the rather distressing side effect of causing the skin on the drinker's hands to peel off in great swaths, erasing his/her fingerprints

noelle said...

I hope DM Cornish is taking notes. This could be a whole new book ;)

Spizi: a delicious fizzy juice that makes the drinker giggle madly at the most mundane things.

RottenPocket said...

So it was a Stanislaudian Giant Ant Bank he robbed?

Let us hope that there wasn't any Spizi mixed with his Sebroc... But that would explain Greg's Nickname:

"Some dude was holding up the bank. He just swung in giggling at us lining up in cues before laughing in the counter clerks' faces and ordering them to bag the cash. He was squatting on the counter giggling the whole time!"

pearl said...

Yes, thus causing the Stanisluadian Giant Ants to-

Phaowshn (yes, I am deadly serious): a defensive maneuver that Stanislaudian Giant Ants take when they detect the presense of Spizi, as they are highly allergic.

RottenPocket said...

Gotta dig those Phaowshnning Stanislaudian Giant Ants. Mad things, even with flaming rashes! They could do with some Progelat though...

Progelat: Stanislaudian Giant Ant Irritant Soothing Cream.

D.M. Cornish said...

LOL!

It's the next book!!!!

(Of course, Somedood will regret his spiziness as the secret progelat-smeared anti-spizi Stanislaudian Giant Ant sect known as the Adorscio take him down with some phaowshnning of their very pwn!)

pearl said...

Poor Somedood, he could do with some bolioup and a good swig of Spizi after those Phaowshinning Stanislaudian Giant Ant bites, after a hearty slop of Progelat.

Bolioup; a sharp tangy sweet made of the gunk of the bottom of cake-tins that grandmothers give to their grandchildren to cheer them up. Usully very sticky, and fairly gloopy if left in a warm spot.

noelle said...

Moundogr: The champion of the Adorscio and an expert at Phaowshinning, Moundogr is a cyborg Stanislaudian EXTREMELY Giant Ant who is a regular Goliath even among his already giant peers! Will Somedood's dectactic powers and his spiziness be able to save him from Moundogr?

monday said...

possibly Somedood can use Bolioup in a tricky trap against Moundogr; a good dollop of the stuff just might slow down the fiend's Phaowshinning!

...unless, of course, Moundogr is also armed with a Sespowde: a silly hat with a big twirly propeller on top, which, in addition to causing the wearer's enemies to dissolve in helpless laughter, can fly the wearer to safety in the snap of a finger.

it may take more than Progelat to save him this time...

RottenPocket said...

And so the adventure continues...

Will Somedood win the fight against the incredible Maoundogr and his genetically altered Phaowshinning power?! Will the Bolioup be enough to stop him?! Oh No! Somedood is into the spizi again! This time shaking the can and spraying it's allergenic contents at the Monstrous atrocity armed with Sespowde. Was it a good idea to anger the beast?!

But Look! Hesiumu is here!

Hesiumu: Scientific genius, Hoodoo priest and Partner in crime, Hesiumu is Greg's [a.k.a. Somedood] one-man-team capable of incredible feats, like self-replication and temporary acts of mind control! However, Hesiumu is also Dyslexic and his devices backfire more than what is acceptable, due to poor programming...

Zakk said...

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Does anyone know what is going on here? I , for one, do not.

pearl said...

Hesiumu, hostrous Hesiumu, whatever would Somedood do without you?

Perhaps this is a ballad.

By the way, if someone drew a Phaowshnning Stanislaudian Giant Ant, I'd be as happy as a toddler with bilioup.

Hostrous (adj): Someone/thing greatly admired for their skills but at the same time hated for their lack of hair care.

RottenPocket said...

I'll draw it... gimme something to do...

Hokay people, fire away, I need a description!

Borty: The Stanislaudian Giant Ant I will draw, shall be known as Borty...

noelle said...

I picture Phaowshnning as making scornful noises and spraying the enemy with saliva during the process. "Psssshh, as if!"

Siffl: a special Stanislaudian giant ant herbal remedy drink that quenches their thirst and excites their saliva glands to make their Phaowshnning wetter and more effective.

monday said...

coednedd: the dignified bobbly things on the ends of the antennae of the older, wiser, less impetuous and less warlike Stanislaudian giant ants. they serve as receptors for subcoms and are prehensile enough to aid in scratching their fellows' backs.

pearl said...

Phaowshnning also involves writhing around on the floor whilst making a high pitched whistling sound.

Ooh, the Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant ants, huh? Nasty things, them. Their bites give you imporas.

Imporas: the nasty rash that a Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant ant gives when it bites. The rash will ooz green pus and smell mighty horrible.

portals said...

Hahaha
Someones finally using those word verifications. Good work.

D.M. Cornish said...

Too bad Someddod forgot his werazi! (Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant ant proofing vest, coming in a rather snazzy shade of camoflaging green)!

monday said...

Hesuimu and Somedood versus Borky the Coednedded Stanislaudian Giant Ant, each party armed and prepared with too many complicated words for my poor little mind to ever remember, but sadly lacking in the Werazi department....
this battle should be epic.

Amendrie: a small portable camera disguised as a belt buckle; excellent for producing mid-combat footage in situations like the abovementioned

:D
