Get out your violins...

Just letting you all know that I am still here folks... I have a bad head cold, am madly writing and trying not to feel sorry for myself. As femina recently admitted, I cannot decide whether to wear my cranky pants or my grumpy trousers.

I hope you all are doing well, though - sunshine and cheer will return soon enough, Lord willing.

Anyone else out there got the dreaded lurgy?

I am barely fending off some kind of hideous throat-swelling plague that has infected my household, while trying to catch up on all the writing I DIDN'T get done last week. Not that this week is going to be a good one for getting writing done either -- too much else going on.

Woe, etc.

I have managed to avoid the lurgy entirely, despite everyone around me having it. Being the glass-half-empty kind of girl that I am, I wonder if it means I'm building up to something truly hideous.

Your dear wife pointed out to me that cranky pants are better than grumpy trousers because they don't clash with anything... :)

Might I suggest? Wear the cranky pants, and pull them up to your armpits. What you have there is what I believe is known as a man-cold.

Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Melanie. I live in Melbourne, I recently finished Lamplighter and now comb the internets for more MBT goodness.

eurgh. last time a wave of plague struck us [they come every time the season changes] it was the disgusting swelling-spitting-weeping-drooling-sweating-miserable-nose-faucet variety. and it wouldnt go away. and whatever you do DONT read stephen king's The Stand while youre sick.

cranky pants, definitely. with the cuffs rolled

Herr Cornish

Well, firstly, hope you're well, or, at the very least, better.

Secondly, interesting to read your response to my last comments. I kinda figured you'd be a Peake fan. Those three books are so brilliant, and I'm glad that, like me, you're not dismissive of Titus Alone. I think it's a fitting end to the trilogy.

Thirdly, I finished Lamplighter. Wow. I loved Foundling so much, and one of the things I liked about it was that I was never sure where it was leaving me. The new one leaves even more questions unanswered and, quite honestly, I have no idea how I'll cope until book three comes out. (Probably by re-reading books 1 & 2 a few more times, I guess.) Anyway, I loved the "widescreen" feel of Lamplighter. Foundling like like a "little" book, about one boy's journey. Then, suddenly, there are wide open roads, huge beasts, intrigue, politics. Brilliant. And in Thredony you've created a brilliant character. I loved the tension/animosity/hero worship between her and Europe.

Fourthly, I was interested to read that the inhabitants of the Half-continent are mostly atheists. Are you going to expand on this? You've thanked God in both your books, so there's clearly some point to mentioning the theistic worldview of the H-c. I will be *very* interested to see where you take all of this.

OK, back to those assignments. Roll on book three!

Crank yourself up out of your deathbed and put quill to parchment! I just finished Lamplighter. My only malady is that my next book doesn't have your name on the cover. I got spoiled by starting up the first book just as the second was due for release.

Ahhh, Lawrence I too am interested where I take everything in Book 3, very interested. As to theistic things, well, I am feeling my way there - suffice to say that being aware of the destinctions between kinds of monster is an important part of H-c "enlightenment".

And you are not spamming Monday, thank you for sharing - if you don't tell us how will we know to visit you.

Thank you dear femina, may the Lord protect you from the truly hideous!... and you too Ms Anderson! Woe, indeed!

Welcome to Monster Blog Tattoo, melanie, you have come to a good place for some kind of MBT "craving" satiation. We all know that Book 3 will only really do the trick though - I sure wish the stinking author would hurry up and write it already... oh... hang on...

in regards to lawrence's theistic comment: i sort of see how hard that must be...slike you can take the typical route, and use religion [for lack of a better word] as a kind of background prop, or just to add color, or you can try to go all the way and tell the truth, which makes things really complicated and hard...dunno. im still trying to figure it out

Exactly, very well put.
